How It Started
Downtown Goldsboro 1914
Established in 1898, and widely recognized as the first church to carry the name ‘Pentecostal Holiness,’ the Goldsboro Church became mother to the renowned International Pentecostal Holiness Church or IPHC.
The IPHC is a global movement of churches that, early on, chose not to limit itself to its national borders and has enjoyed worldwide expansion and influence.
Meanwhile, back home, the mother church, whose spiritual heirs would, in time, be known as ‘The First Church,’ greatly impacted the Goldsboro culture at the turn of the twentieth century.
Historical accounts from the early 1900s point to a multi-ethnic body whose Sunday evening worship services often numbered 1,000 in attendance.

Fast forward over 125 years and The First Church (TFC) continues to impact the culture of Goldsboro with the good news of Jesus Christ.
We are dedicated to being "a congregation for every generation" passionate about ministering to every age and stage of life. We thrive on serving our community by offering premier worship experiences and learning environments to all generations—children, students, adults.
Dynamic Sunday morning services with vibrant worship in song, prayer, and sound biblical teaching fan the flame for community outreach and on-campus ministries.

Where We're Headed
Bill Rose, TFC Lead Pastor
As in 1898, so today. The First Church is on point to continue the legacy of impacting greater Goldsboro and the globe for the glory of God.
Lead pastor Bill Rose was asked about TFC's goals in a luncheon for newcomers during a Q&A session in 2023. He replied that this church inspires people to “know God, find freedom, discover their design, and make an impact.”
With this type of focus and culture in place, by the grace of God, The First Church will be a soul-saving station where disciples are equipped to live for Christ and lead transformation in greater Goldsboro and beyond for another 125 years.
